Shopify app development for the jobs no app store app can do
We plan, build and look after custom Shopify apps for brands whose work no app store app fits: ERP and 3PL links, checkout rules, product configurators and internal tools, each shaped around how your business actually runs.
Scope your Shopify app
When an app from the app store stops being enough
For common needs, a ready-made Shopify app is usually the right answer. But as a brand grows, generic workflows, systems that do not talk to each other and a pile of overlapping subscriptions can cost more time and money than they save.
That is when we build: for fulfilment rules only your business has, complex product options, wholesale workflows, customer account features, checkout logic, or a direct link to the systems your operations run on.

Build a custom Shopify app, or install one?
Use an existing app when:
- Plenty of other stores need the same thing
- A well-reviewed app already does the job
- Your team can work within its settings
- The monthly fee is fair for what it does
- It already talks to the tools you run today
Consider a custom build when:
- Nobody else runs the process the way you do
- Three apps are glued together to fake one feature
- Staff lose hours every week to copy and paste
- Orders, stock or customer data must flow straight into your ERP, CRM, warehouse or 3PL
- The feature is part of why customers choose you
- Existing apps cause data, speed or compliance problems
- Over three years, owning it costs less than renting it
Custom Shopify app development services
ERP, CRM and operations integrations
Connect Shopify to your ERP, CRM, PIM, WMS, accounting or 3PL with a supported integration, not a spreadsheet export or a fragile chain of zaps.
Shopify Functions and checkout
Discount, delivery, payment and validation rules built on Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions, the supported replacements for Scripts and checkout.liquid.
Product configurators
Build-your-own bundles, personalisation and made-to-order options that feed clean data to the cart, the order and the warehouse.
Internal operations apps
Admin tools for your service, merchandising and fulfilment teams that cut the repeated clicks out of their day, and the errors that come with them.
Admin, theme and Flow extensions
Add features right where your team works: admin actions and blocks, theme app blocks, customer account pages and Shopify Flow triggers and actions.
Data and reporting apps
Collect, clean and sync order, product and customer data between Shopify, your analytics and your reporting tools.
We also take over old Shopify apps that keep breaking, leak data or still call retired APIs, and repair or rebuild them.

First, a written buy-or-build check
Before any build, we compare an app you can install, Shopify’s own settings, a ready-made connector and a custom app, and estimate what each would cost to run over three years.
Ask for a buy-or-build checkHow we build custom Shopify apps
Start
Understand the problem
We write down the problem, who uses the app, today’s workflow, the systems involved and how we will know it worked, before suggesting any solution.
Buy or build?
We compare existing apps, Shopify’s own features, an integration and a custom build. If buying is the better deal, we tell you to buy.

Write the blueprint
Data flows, APIs, extensions, hosting, permissions, security, edge cases and release plan, agreed in writing.

Click through it first
For anything your customers or staff will click, we prototype the key screens and test them with real users first.

Build in stages
We ship it in short stages and show you each one, with the work list open to you throughout.
Break it before customers do
Permissions, failure states, high order volumes, API rate limits, devices and the moments your trading depends on.
Go live with a way back
Staging, data migration, monitoring and a rollback plan, with us on hand while your team starts using it.

Keep it current
Monitoring, fixes, a move to each new Shopify API version, security patches and new features as your business changes.

Why choose Ecompanda for your Shopify app?
The business case before code
We start from the problem and the outcome you need, not from a technology we want to use.
We know Shopify’s rules
Every design starts from what your Shopify plan allows: which Functions and checkout extensions it can run, the API rate limits, and how webhooks retry.
You own it
Scope, code access, ownership, documentation and who maintains what are agreed in writing before we start.
Design and engineering together
Apps that people use every day are designed as products, not bolted on as integrations.
The whole stack, not one feature
We look at the storefront, the checkout, your data and your back-office systems together, so the app fits what is around it.
“They’ve built custom Shopify apps for us… and more recently developed an MCP server and Slack bot that have helped make our operations incredibly slick.” Dan Groch, Fig & Bloom, on Trustpilot, March 2026.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as a custom Shopify app?
An app built for one business rather than sold to everyone. It can connect Shopify to your other systems, automate internal work or add features that Shopify and public apps do not offer. Since 1 January 2026 new custom apps are created through Shopify’s Dev Dashboard or CLI, not in the store admin.
Is Shopify Plus required?
Not for most apps. You do need Plus for a custom app that uses Shopify Functions, and for checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps. We check your plan against your requirements during discovery.
Our Shopify Scripts or checkout.liquid customisations stopped working. What now?
Both are retired. Shopify Scripts stopped running entirely on 30 June 2026, and checkout.liquid no longer runs the information, shipping or payment steps or the Thank you and Order status pages. We rebuild that logic with Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions.
How long does a custom app take?
A single integration or an internal tool usually takes 2 to 6 weeks. Customer-facing apps and projects that touch several systems take longer; we give you a dated plan after discovery.
Can you connect Shopify to our ERP, CRM or 3PL?
Yes, that is most of our app work. We build and support the integration. We do not implement the ERP itself; that stays with your ERP partner.
Who owns the code?
You do. The code lives in your repository, and we agree ownership, documentation and maintenance in writing before we start.
How much does a custom Shopify app cost?
Custom apps and integrations start from $3,500 USD, usually built in 2 to 6 weeks. The more people, connected systems and Shopify screens an app touches, the higher the price, so customer-facing apps and multi-system projects cost more. Budget for hosting, monitoring and the quarterly API upgrades too. Discovery ends with a written scope and a three-year running cost.
